That’s all? Look up the description of the disorder in any reputable source and you’ll see that each of them say the same thing your textbook says. Take it up with the APA, not the writer…
Personality disorders are among the most difficult to treat in the DSM. Being in an introductory psychology class does not qualify you to make such accusations of ableism, when they are simply describing behaviors that are SYMPTOMATIC of the disorder itself. Saying that they cause many societal problems is most likely based on statistical information. I am quite aware of the DSM’s past diagnoses that have been revised and am even more aware of the discriminatory language it has used against homosexuals in the past. It’s true, every “disordered” person deserves a chance to be treated, but it does not help anyone to make a disorder sound less severe than it is
